Santa Cruz: Super cool run! We didn't really have an idea of where we were going to run and just ran on the road to start. It got really tight so we hopped off and found a path close by. That dirt pathed turned into white sand for a little while which was cool. It was open spaced with some trees. It felt like the beach and forest had a baby and we were running in it. Up until then the first couple miles were relatively flat but then we started to do some steep up and down. It turned into more dense forest with super tall trees. I ran with Conner for most of the run.

I’ll do your rust buster for repeats on end

From Eva Splaine on Sat, Aug 17, 2019 at 21:46:54 from 108.61.201.170

Well...if the race were a 1500m race, I might put my money on Connor, but if the race were a 100Km race, I would definitely put my money on Eugene....and if you gave me a little bit of a handicap I would run you both in the ground.

:)

Trust me you ain't need no handicap against this sucka

Last day of camp :( it goes by so fast! We drove about 15 minutes to a trail that we didn't do last year. I really enjoyed it. It sure did climb! But Coach P who hadn't run the trail in forever forgot to remind us to go a certain way and so we kept on climbing when it would have flattened out. Right before I flipped there started to be lots of trees and the trail widened and it reminded me of horseback riding nature. Fun run. Strides.

BYU Autumn Classic. Even tho this was a down week in mileage as we are preparing for a strong training block these next three weeks leading up to Notre Dame, my legs had felt heavy all week. Friday, Saturday, and Monday took a toll on them. And then I went out too hard the first mile and paid the price for it. Shortly after the first mile I knew it was gonna be long day. I ended up averaging about the same mile pace that I wanted going into it, but I wasn’t able to stay with the other Weber guys and faded most of the race. Now my focus turns to these next couple weeks and getting some good workouts.

2 sets 600,400,600,400,600,200 on the grass field. The goal for 6's was 1:51, 4's and 2 - 6:40 pace. 2 minutes rest in between sets. Started off great and then in the second set it got harder and harder for me to hit pace on the 4's and I wasn't recovering for the 6. The last 6 of the second set was slow. 2 min break. Then everybody had either 1,2, or 3 more but instead of jogging a 400 we got 90 seconds rest. Coach told me I had one more but after I hit the pace I told him I could do a second one because we were getting standing rest and my body was recovering. Ran one more and threw in a little kick 1:47.

Then finish to 7 miles for me, 8 for the top group. The goal for the first 4.3 was 5:25 and we were a couple seconds faster than that. I felt soooo good. And it felt like everybody else in group B did too cuz we seemed really smooth. It felt like my heart rate wasn’t even elevated and the only thing that I was working was my legs. Took the quick break. Second set pace was see what you can do. I stayed at the same average which was good. Not only was it a good workout that helped build fitness and confidence and help down the road, but it was fun. And you gotta have fun.

ISU Invite. We had talked about how the course has rolling hills but we majorly underestimated them. There were two hills that were freaking steep. Like one step below the mutha cussa type steep. Glad I went out conservative, but I still didn't even move up that much. I know don't have lots of training under my belt and have to be realistic but I feel like I'm in shape to be racing faster and runnng faster in workouts and something, I think a lack of mental toughness is holding me back. I'm sick of running like a scrub and need to figure it out.

Long cooldown on the Roosevelt trail. We climbed a pretty tough, long mountain, and had we wanted to keep going up another giant one, we could have went up Chinese Peak. Maybe someday. We took the single track down and it had so many gradual switch-backs going down the mountain. I was very impressed. I wish Enve was like that.

Shout out to Joe for recommending Jeri's Jumbo's Cafe, we ate there after the race and it was 10/10!

PM: USU Invite. Best race this season by far. I put myself in a much better position to compete with others compared to the other races. Well I put myself in good position at BYU it was just too good of position and I died... But felt great. Going down the bottom half of the figure 8 the second time an Isaacs army guy passed me but I went with him and after a little while realized that I could even go faster, passed him, and found a second wind. Proud of the mental toughness that I had to go with him. Had a very strong last uphill. From running the course so many times I knew that you could get closer to redlining earlier in the race due to the downhill finish. Gained quite a bit of ground on the uphill. I caught and passed Conner when he had a sizeable gap on me at the start of the lap. Kept on pushing, passing more people. After the little grass u-turn loop section thing I came up on Zach and told him to come with me and started really moving. Finished strong and was suprised to see the clock show 21:48 a 32 second improvement from last year! I finally was able to really push myself mentally which allowed me to push myself physically and have a great race. Landon and Jared were both there so that was pretty sweet to have them be able to watch. We went to Even Steven's after the race. Always a 10/10!

Started at Rainbow Gardens and ran to where we park at South Weber. Really liked how it was just one way, no flipping. My legs were tired but I gave it my best effort to stay with the traveling guys for as long as possible. I stayed with them for two of the 6:0X miles and then hit consistent 6:20-30's. It was dang cold at Rainbow because of the canyon wind but got fine as we moved down the parkway. Until the sun came up and how the temperature drops around that time. Holy shiz. I was running with Zach and all of a sudden everything froze. Not fun haha but good memories. Stopped at the bathroom. Came out and Coach and Frazier had joined up with us.
